
Getting the Heat Right: A Better Way to Warm PET Preforms
If you’re running high-speed lines—think Husky HyPET or Sacmi SBF 12/24—you know the struggle. You need the center of the preform wall hot enough to blow, but you can’t just crank the heat or you’ll scorch the surface. It’s a frustrating balancing act. That’s exactly why we built these replacement lamps. We wanted to fix that “surface-only” heating problem once and for all. The secret is in the penetration. To actually get the heat deep into the plastic, you need a specific short-wave infrared (SWIR) profile. We’ve tweaked the wattage-to-length ratios to push more thermal flux. In plain English? The heat doesn’t just sit on the outer skin. By dialing in the voltage and filament load, we force that energy right into the core. The result is a much more even temperature. No more thin spots. No more bottles bursting mid-cycle. It just works. No fuss, no modifications. We use high-purity quartz glass because nobody wants their lamps clouding over after a few weeks. We also added halogen-cycling to the filaments. This keeps the temperature steady and means the tubes actually last. As for the install, it’s a breeze. We use standard R7s or Sk15 connectors depending on what your machine takes. They’re simple drop-in replacements. You just plug them into your existing sockets and controllers and you’re good to go. No rewiring, no headaches. One quick heads-up, though. These lamps put out a massive amount of heat density. That’s great for your cycle times, but it does put a bit more pressure on your oven’s cooling fans. If your ventilation is already struggling, keep an eye on your electronics so they don’t overheat. Also, do yourself a favor: check your reflectors when you swap the lamps. If the mirrors are dirty, it doesn’t matter how powerful the lamp is—the heat won’t hit the target. Keep them clean, keep the focus sharp, and your line will keep humming.
