Ever stepped into a bathroom heater and felt like you were staring directly into the sun? It’s a common problem. Those short-wave infrared lamps are great for instant heat, but the glare can be brutal. It’s especially tough on kids or babies who can’t just look away. We decided to fix that. Taming the glare The secret is in the glass. We use a special quartz coating that acts like a filter, blocking out those harsh, aggressive wavelengths. By shifting the light away from the blue end of the spectrum, we get a much softer glow. It’s not just to make it look pretty. It’s about stopping that retina-straining feeling. We also use a parabolic mirror. Instead of letting the light scatter everywhere or create one blinding “hot spot” that hits you in the eyes if you look up, the mirror pushes the heat straight down where you actually need it. Heat vs. Light Now, here’s the thing: when you filter out light to protect your eyes, you lose a tiny bit of energy. But we’ve got a workaround. We tweaked the filament wattage to make up for that loss. You still get that deep, cozy heat that cuts through a damp room, but you don’t get that blinding flash you’d find in a cheap halogen bulb. Getting it installed right If you’re wiring these in, just a heads-up: these tubes gethot. Seriously hot. Make sure your housing can handle the temperature. If the reflector is crooked or poorly aligned, you might actually warp the plastic casing of the fixture. A few pro tips to keep things from melting: Use high-temperature ceramics for the sockets so your wiring doesn’t fry over time. And for heaven’s sake, keep the vents clear. If the heat gets trapped inside the fixture, the lamp is going to burn out way faster than it should.
