Where things usually go wrong
Most heaters don’t fail in the middle; they fail at the edges. The connection points are the weak spots. If moisture creeps into the lamp’s interior, you get arcing—which is just a fancy way of saying sparks. To kill that risk, we use silicone gaskets or potting compounds. Think of it like a waterproof seal that locks the humidity out for good. And a quick tip: make sure your wiring is moisture-proof and can handle the heat. If you’re using basic cables, you’re asking for trouble.
The danger of “more power”
It’s tempting to cram a high-wattage lamp into a small bathroom to get the room warm fast. But there’s a catch. More wattage means more heat density. If you push too much power without enough ventilation or high-grade insulation, those seals we talked about will start to degrade way faster than they should. The smartest move? Just match your lamp’s wattage to whatever your thermal fuse is rated for. Don’t try to “hack” it for more heat. And for heaven’s sake, check your grounding. Even the best-insulated lamp in the world is a liability if the chassis isn’t grounded properly. Keep the seals tight, follow the specs, and you’re good to go.
